How to Pack the Perfect Beach Picnic

When going to the beach it is fun to bring a lovely picnic for your day in the sand! Here are some healthy essentials we love to enjoy while functional and Instagram-able. Your picnic menu needs to be packaged with care, something everyone will eat, and also be easy to eat al fresco. Here are a few recipes that will inspire you for an amazing beachy summer outing.

First to consider is snacks…. Now we could just bring bags of chips and call it a day, but our healthy, yet delightful choice is light, airy, and travel friendly. Popcorn is crispy, healthy, and has a variety of flavor options.

Picnic Popcorn Recipe:

1 cup of uncooked popcorn kernels (any brand)

Coconut oil (or avocado oil)

Seasoning of choice (salt, pepper, nutritional yeast, etc)

Heat up a large pot over stove to medium heat. Oil pot enough to cover all the bottom of the pot. Drop all your kernels enough to the top of the oil and close the lid. Wait for some to pop then begin to shake the pot if necessary to evenly distribute heat / prevent burning. Once popping noises slow, take off heat and immediately add seasonings. Let cool & transfer to to-go containers i.e. zip lock bags, individual mason jars, etc, or eat immediately.

Refreshing Homemade Ice Tea:

Next we recommend bringing a homemade refreshing summery beverage. Always a good idea to pack a few bottles of water but outside of the basics, making and packing homemade tea is absolutely delightful as you watch the waves crash on the sand.

You will need:

4 cups of water (depending on container size)

Tea (any variety you like)

Seasonings of Choice: Cinnamon, Turmeric, Honey, Lemon, etc

With 4 cups of water, brew 3 tablespoons of loose tea leaves overnight. Pack in to-go mug.

A main staple we love is refreshing, healthy, and a summer delight to enjoy at the beach. This salad works for all seasonings, with it’s flavorful palatability and refreshing flavor.

Blueberry Feta Salad:

Greens (lettuce, kale, arugula, etc)

Avocado Slices

Blueberries

Tomatoes

Feta Cheese (or cheese of preference)

Olive Oil

Lemon Juice

Walnuts

In a mixing bowl, add together all the ingredients except the olive oil and lemon juice. Prep into two containers and mix while beachside.

And finally, a perfect dessert is fruits, cheese and crackers. Pack your favorite fruits that are in season, a few select cheeses, and crackers for a fabulous finish and truly a stunning set up at the beach.

For a romantic twist pack in a woven picnic basket or if easier an insulated lunch bag. Don’t forget a few beach chairs, large towels or blankets, sunglasses, and utensils to eat with. Grab a sun hat for UV protection and soak up the day.
